Iranian Peace Prize winner to visit Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — An Iranian human rights activist who received the 2003 Nobel Peace Prize will be visiting the University of Notre Dame in April.

Shirin Ebadi will deliver the 15th annual Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh Lectures in Ethics and Public Policy on April 21. Free public tickets to the speech are available through the university.

Ebadi is a lawyer and human rights and democracy campaigner. She won the Nobel prize for efforts that included promoting the rights of women and children in Iran and worldwide.

She is the first Iranian and Muslim woman to win the award.
