Glitch cited in fake alerts on release of prisoners
FORT WAYNE, Ind. — An apparent computer glitch is sending phone calls falsely alerting victims in Indiana that criminals are being released from prison.Huntington County Prosecutor Amy Richison told The Journal Gazette of Fort Wayne that five sex crime victims told her they got automated calls Thursday from Victim Information and Notification.Prosecutor’s offices in Allen and Marion counties also reported getting calls from worried victims who had received the messages. The messages tell victims that the person who committed the crime against them would be released from the Indiana Department of Correction on Thursday.Richison says officials at the notification service told her a computer glitch caused the messages, and that the victims would be notified that the calls were sent in error.
