A light dusting of snow that fell in Indianapolis this afternoon is not expected to cause problems for the evening commute.

The snow began falling about 3:30 p.m. and was expected to bring less than a half-inch of new snow to the area, according to the National Weather Service.

Highways and interstates in Central Indiana were moving smoothly at about 4:30 p.m., according to the Indiana State Police’s Traffic Management Center.

The Indianapolis Department of Public Works has placed 60 snowplow drivers on standby in case the storm worsens this evening, spokesman Steven R. Hardiman II said.

Forecasters expect less than an inch of snow to fall in the Indianapolis area on Tuesday when the high reaches about 21 degrees.
