Sporting red T-shirts, the color of drug-free awareness, 850 Nora Elementary students pledged to stay away from drugs.

As part of national Red Ribbon Week, students at the Washington Township elementary school took the Say No to Drugs pledge simultaneously Oct. 21, said Principal Suzanne Zybert.

Students in kindergarten through fifth grade also sang songs and listened to community leaders speak about staying drug-free.

A nurse spoke about health concerns and prescription drugs, a police officer addressed drugs and the law, and a parent, who now runs marathons, spoke about how hard it is to quit smoking, Zybert said.

“The students at Nora are more educated and are ready to be leaders in creating a drug-free world,” Zybert said.
