Salvation Army opens library today in Indianapolis Westside location
A grant is helping the Salvation Army open a library today at its Westside location.
The Salvation Army received a $25,000 grant from Target, said Mike Rowland, media director for Indiana Salvation Army locations. They will hold a ribbon cutting for the library and media center at 5:30 p.m. at the Eagle Creek Community Center, 4400 N. High School Road.
Local author Lorene Burkhart and Douglas Hairston, director of the Mayor’s Front Porch Alliance, will participate in the ceremony.
“The grant was part of a $1 million donation to the Salvation Army to revitalize the organization’s libraries, media centers and educational facilities across the country,” Rowland said.
The money was used to refurbish a room in the community center including new lighting, flooring, bookshelves, books and workspaces, Rowland said.
Technology including computers and a Smart Board interactive whiteboard, will give kids a place to study and learn during scheduled after school activities. Rosetta Stone software will enhance English as a Second Language classes.
