A milk truck driver was injured Monday when his rig overturned on the on-ramp to I-70 on the Near Southside.

Farrell Carraco, 51, Anderson, flipped the trailer on the ramp from McCarty Street to eastbound I-70 at 8:22 a.m., according Capt. Rita Reith, spokeswoman for the Indianapolis Fire Department.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Sgt. Matthew Mount said Carraco was going too fast and hit the cement divider on the ramp. He was trapped inside the cab and suffered a cut to his head when the truck overturned. He was treated at Wishard Memorial Hospital and released.

Battalion Chief Dennis Musgrave said 30 gallons of diesel fuel spilled from the punctured gas tank, and about 50 gallons of milk spilled from the trailer.

The ramp was closed while the spills were cleaned.
