A man drove a sport utility vehicle into an Eastside bar after closing time early Wednesday.

The vehicle backed into Bar 52, 3806 English Ave., at a high speed while a group of men were fighting in the parking lot, an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department report said.

A group of five or six people who were inside the bar near the front window escaped injury.

The crash happened at 3:45 a.m. The business had closed at 3 a.m.

According to the police report, a group of customers began brawling after they left the bar. As the bartender and a customer headed outside to break up the fight, they saw a man get into a parked SUV, put it in reverse and crash into the bar entrance. The driver then sped away.

The crash caused $20,000 in damage.
