Ben Davis senior wins U.S. marching band spot
A Ben Davis senior was awarded a spot in a national marching band this morning.
Senior Jordon Schell was named to the U.S. Army will march with the U.S. Army All-American Bowl marching band during halftime of the U.S. Army All- American Bowl football game in January, said Joshua Lott, U.S. Army All-American Bowl spokesman.
Schell is one of 97 musicians chosen to march at the event in San Antonio, Texas.
The All-American Bowl selection team recognized Schell’s accomplishment today when they give him the official hat and jacket of this elite marching band.
Last year, Ben Davis senior clarinet player Rachel Bayless marched in the elite band. Ben Davis is the only band in the nation with students marching in this band two years in a row, said associate director David Cole.
An Avon student to be named will receive the same honor at an award ceremony tonight.
Schell will also march with the Marching Giants on Saturday at the Bands of America regional competition and Nov. 11-14 at the Bands of America Grand National Championships. Ben Davis finished 10th in last year’s contest.
With their show, “The Silk Road,” the Ben Davis band also placed fifth in Class A Saturday at the Indiana State School Music Association state finals competition.
