On behalf of Muslim Hoosiers, the Muslim Alliance of Indiana would like to express our profound sadness over the tragic incidents at Fort Hood, Texas. As Muslims, we are hurt by the unspeakable cruelty suffered by soldiers committed to preserving our way of life. We grieve with them and their families.

Our sadness was amplified when we learned the shooter claimed Islam as his faith. The true practice of Islam never condones violence. At no point should this dastardly act be considered an expression of Islamic faith. We, as Muslims, condemn this act and ask that the perpetrator be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

We call upon Muslim Hoosiers to help military families in their time of need, and we ask our Islamic centers to pray for the departed and their families. As Muslim Hoosiers, we are proud of our soldiers and the incredible sacrifices they make for our country, and the memories of those who perished will not be forgotten.
