Full support for general is right response in Afghanistan
I don’t know how many wars Ken Bode (“Time for Obama to show rogue general the door,” Oct. 30) fought for our country, but I served in the Army for 22 years and fought in Vietnam with a combat battalion. I learned that the United States should never be involved in a war that it is not committed to win whatever the cost.
There are only two options for President Barack Obama in Afghanistan. We can pull out and let the Taliban take over and have them invite al-Qaida to resume training there, or we can give our military commanders what they think they need. Anything less than full support of Gen. Stanley McChrystal request will cause a protracted war, which, in the end, we will lose, as we did in Vietnam,
Obama hand picked Gen. McChrystal, not the Pentagon brass. Obama now needs to give the general his full support.
