Safety is top concern for trick or treating
Dressed as ghosts, ghouls, goblins, superheroes, fairy princesses and more, area children will make the rounds of Southside Indianapolis and Johnson County neighborhoods Saturday for Halloween.
Area cities and towns have set trick or treating times; neighborhoods outside city and town limits may set their own hours as well.
For safety, police officials recommend that residents turn on exterior house lights and give out wrapped candy and that parents be watchful of what homes their children visit and what candy they receive.
In Greenwood, regular patrols will be increased by putting more than 50 police cars on the streets Halloween night, according to the department’s Web site.
“The addition of these officers is not a response to any past problems, but rather is a way to enhance our residents’ feeling of safety,” a statement on the site says.
Community trick or treating hours are as follows:
Franklin: 6 to 9 p.m.
Greenwood: 6 to 8:30 p.m.
Indianapolis: 6 to 8 p.m.
New Whiteland: 6 to 9 p.m.
