Johnson Co. has some H1N1 vaccine for Friday clinic
FRANKLIN — Johnson County officials are going ahead with plans for their first public H1N1 flu-vaccine clinic, despite a low number of vaccine doses.
The clinic will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday — or whenever the doses are gone — at Scott Hall at the Johnson County Fairgrounds, 100 Fairgrounds St.
The county has 600 doses of H1N1 vaccination available; 400 of which are of the flu mist variety.
Only those who fall into the risk groups are asked to visit the clinic.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control list the risk groups as pregnant women; household caregivers and contacts for children younger than 6 months of age; healthcare and emergency medical services personnel; all people age 6 months to 24 years; and people ages 19 to 64 who have health conditions associated with a higher risk of medical complications from flu.
“The one thing I want to tell people,” said county health officer Craig Moorman, “is they have to understand that there will be other opportunities” for vaccinations.
“They just need to try and accept that,” he added. “Hopefully people will be patient.”
The county health department has established a phone line specifically for H1N1-related questions, (317) 736-3031.
