Hamilton Southeastern Schools prepares for 3,000 H1N1 flu vaccine doses
FISHERS — Hamilton Southeastern Schools is set to receive about 3,000 doses of the H1N1 vaccine but only high-risk students will be eligible for the shots.
Spokesperson Marianna Richards said today the district will notify parents of the update today through the district’s listserv, although most were notified via automated calls Thursday evening.
District officials had said elementary students would be the first in line to receive the vaccine, but that plan changed because the doses totaled fewer than what were anticipated.
The district has 17,752 students in 12 elementaries, three intermediate schools, three junior highs and two high schools.
High-risk students from the Early Childhood program through Grade 12 will be the first in line to receive the shots.
HSE said it will not receive mists or preservative-free vaccines.
Students in the high-risk category who are eligible for the vaccine include those with asthma, diabetes, neurological disorders, immune deficiency disorders and other chronic health conditions.
A registration and screening for students is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Hamilton Southeastern High School cafeteria, 13910 E. 126th St., Fishers. Another vaccination clinic will be on Nov. 19.
A vaccination schedule will be posted on the district’s Web site.
