FISHERS — The fall sessions of “Follow the North Star,” a reenactment of Indiana’s Underground Railroad, begin today at Conner Prairie.

“Follow the North Star” will run from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. today through Saturday, Nov. 12-14 and Nov. 19-21.

The activity allows participants to take on the role of slaves navigating through Indiana’s Underground Railroad.

Since 1998, the event has attracted 48,000 people, according to a press release from Conner Prairie.

The experience can be intense, so only those 12 and older can participate, according to the press release.

Participants walk a mile at night, regardless of weather, and meet costumed actors, who treat participants as slaves.

This year, people also will be able to hear from an expert on slavery.

Marcus Rediker, author of “The Slave Ship: A Human History,” will give a lecture at 4 p.m. Sunday at Conner Prairie, 13400 Allisonville Road.

Reservations are required for “Follow the North Star” and can be made by calling Conner Prairie at (317) 776-6000.
