A jury heard testimony Friday from a man who shared a holding cell with the defendant accused of shooting Indianapolis police officer Jason Fishburn in the head during a foot chase.

Brian Reese said he waited for Fishburn around the corner of a house before shooting him, testified Gary Rees, who has several auto theft convictions, according to WTHR (Channel 13), The Indianapolis Star’s news-gathering partner. Reese’s attorneys challenged the credibility of Rees, who is not related to Reese.

Reese, 37, faces charges including attempted murder, but his lawyers dispute that he intended to kill Fishburn, 30, who was seriously injured in the attack.

A Porter County jury is hearing the case in a Valparaiso courtroom because of heavy media coverage in Indianapolis. The trial will continue Monday and could conclude later that day or Tuesday.
