Hammond couple found slain in Ill. forest

CHICAGO — The couple found dead in a Cook County Forest Preserve have been identified has the parents of a Chicago television host.

CLTV producer Gerry Riles says the victims have been identified as 78-year-old Milton and 76-year-old Ruby McClendon of Hammond, Ind. He said they are the parents of CLTV television host Garrard McClendon.

Riles said McClendon was at his parents’ home late Tuesday along with police investigators.

Although the Cook County medical examiner’s office didn’t confirm the victims’ identities, officials said the woman died of a gunshot wound to the head and the man died of multiple gunshot wounds. The deaths were classified as homicides.

Forest Preserve Police spokesman Steve Mayberry says neither victim carried identification.

A woman contacted police Monday afternoon after she saw the bodies while on a walk near Wentworth Woods in Calumet City.
